London Games Festival 2007

We ran a series of events called: Heroes, Movie Stars & Millionaires dedicated to games and machinima.

Design Rules! Creating Compelling Emotive Games workshop lead by Ernest Adams - design veteran and co-founder of IGDA and leading international games industry tutor. This half-day highly interactive group workshop attracted professional games designers through academics to corporations including Symantec.

It’s Showtime – with Machinima ..1/2 day of tutorials, show-cases and Q&A created a buzz with the leading machinima creators in Second Life speaking: Ricard Gras of La-Interactiva and Chris Carella of Electric Sheep plus leading indie directors and producers of films. Speakers included:

  • Ricard Gras (LA Interactiva, the leading film-maker in Second Life)
  • Chris Carella (Electric Sheep, world's largest designer for virtual worlds)
  • Dr Tracy Harwood (the force behind the Machinima Festival Europe)

They showcased film segments and talked through the techniques used to develop them; advised as to the best games engine and platform for creating your film across Second Life and others and how to get work as a designer in virtual worlds – and provided the inside track on what judges look for when making awards.

Both events were perfectly formed and both a tight squeeze in the allocated room. We plan more of these over the coming months. Tell us what you want!
